As a matter of fact, weight loss always involves reducing calorie intake relative to calorie expenditure. You can accomplish this in only two ways: Burn more calories (through exercise or increased metabolism) or eat fewer calories. However, there’s an issue with the latter, as eating fewer calories will definitely ignite your desire to eat more - cutting back too much can make you really hungry. That’s why the biggest challenge when it comes to weight loss is controlling your appetite.

Fortunately, however, there are appetite suppressants which can help you overcome this challenge. Remember, if you can control your appetite, you can prevent overeating and you can lose weight easier.

There are many appetite suppressants and some are much better and safer than others, some are all-natural and some are some are less expensive. The key to finding the right choice is to do some research. This article will help you make your decision easier.

Classification of appetite suppressants
Broadly, appetite suppressants can be divided into two categories:

1-All-Natural Appetite Suppressants
If you want to suppress your appetite in a healthy and safe way, then high-fiber foods (e.g. apple and green leafy vegetables) and pure water are the best appetite suppressants.

Water: A lot of times, when we think we're hungry, we are actually thirsty. Drink good, clean and slightly chilled water instead of eating and learn to differentiate between the two.

Before starting your meal, it is best to have a pint or an 8 ounce glass of water. This will fill your stomach enough and the amount of food consumed will be reduced naturally.

Green Vegetables: Spinach, cabbage and lettuce are also among the best natural appetite suppressants. They contain a significantly low calorie amount and are, sometimes, called as "negative calorie" foods because their digestion, itself, requires a significant amount of calories to be consumed.

Apples: Ever heard the saying; an apple a day keeps cravings at bay? High-fiber foods like apples generally require more chewing time, giving your body extra time to register the fact that you're no longer hungry. Therefore, you're less likely to overeat.

2- Other appetite suppressants
There are also quite a few prescription-based diet pills and over-the-counter appetite suppressants:

Prescription-based diet pills: Diet pills work “artificially” to suppress the “natural” feeling of hunger and, therefore, have their own limitations and drawbacks. Most importantly, most of these pills can not be taken without a doctor’s prescription and have low safety profiles. That’s why their use can be considered only if advised by the doctor.

Over the counter appetite suppressants: For those who do not go for all-natural appetite suppressants, another good option is over the counter appetite suppressants. These are generally safe and cost-effective and give you numerous other health benefits as well. However, due to wide variety available in the market, it’s relatively tough to choose one that will suit you the best.

One of the safest over the counter appetite suppressants, for example, would be something consisting of soluble fibers that becomes highly viscous when it binds with bile acids during food digestion. This would create a highly viscous solution to slow down digestion and the absorption of food. Your stomach would then find the viscous solution a lot harder to digest, causing it to remain in the stomach far longer than an ordinary meal usually would. This would give you a feeling of being full for much longer and will suppress your appetite and food cravings.

In short, if you include the all-natural and / or the safest over the counter appetite suppressants in your weight loss program, you'll be able to control your hunger and prevent overeating. More importantly, your weight loss efforts won't be as challenging!

So, go for it! There really is nothing to lose except weight.
