swimmer listening to musicLove to swim but find it boring to just go back and forth, lap after lap?  Adding an MP3 player to your workouts will give you motivation and energy to get through your workouts with a bit more pep.  Whether you are a triathlete, kayaker, swimmer or want to hear tunes while you bathe, there is now a solution to your boredom. Water and music do mix with a waterproof MP3 player.

There are several ways to listen to your favorite music while you swim, scuba dive or snorkel. You can purchase a waterproof MP3 player or a waterproof ipod or you can place your ipod or player into a waterproof case. There are also radios you can wear in the water but I have found the reception to be poor and so to avoid frustration while you swim, stick to your playlist.  In any case, the result is music while you are in the one place it was thought you would not be able to enjoy you favorite tunes. In addition to the player you will also need earphones that can be used under the water or something new called bone conduction headphones which offer a new way for sound to travel. Water and music do mix with a waterproof MP3 player.

How to Create the Best Sound for Use Under the Water

It seems obvious doesn't it? Purchase an underwater music player, press play and you have a music player that will help you to be entertained and motivated while you swim, paddle, or just lounge on your raft. It is not necessarily that clear cut, you need to do a bit of prep work before you “get wet”. You will need to purchase your underwater music player (or pouch) and get special underwater earphones.

If you are going to waterproof your current ipod or MP3 by purchasing a case, make sure you also get the underwater earphones. There are several music players to chose from, some better than others; a few to chose from are Nu Dolphin and Freestyle Audio. If you are going to use your music player for scuba or free diving, you will want to be sure and check that the player is able to withstand the pressure.

The Difference Between Land and Underwater Earphones

If you are interested in hearing your music without any static or disturbance you will want to try using a new technology called bone conduction. When you listen to music through land earphones you are hearing the music because of the ability of air to vibrate to the eardrum. This is not really possible while you are submersed in the water so for a good, clear sound you will need to use a system which does not rely on air transfer.  Bone conduction allows vibrations to pass through the bone and into the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum. This technology does take some getting accustomed to so you will want to practice with your headset/ ear piece before your first use. You can purchase the  Audiobone aqua headphones.

Music motivates and helps you get into your workouts. Studies have found you push harder and longer when you are listening to music so now thanks to new technology, no matter where you are exercsing you can listen to whatever gets you going.
