Treadmills and elliptical machines are the most commonly preferred and used fitness machines in spite of the many varieties and brands available for fitness machines. Treadmills are popular among new athletes; they're simple solutions tht have been around for a long time. Treadmills are in fashion among runners and people who do walking, too.

But there are also other machines available to help you get better benefits when compared to a treadmill; some of them also offer a better and pleasant workout experience according to many fitness participants. The Elliptical trainer is one new kind of equipment which is gaining significance today. What distinguishes treadmills from elliptical trainers? What are the advantages of both and which would be the best option to choose in order to achieve the fitness? Here are some ways to compare the two types of equipment.

Treadmills – an overview:

The treadmill is an exercise instrument that is used for doing activities like jogging, walking, virtual climbing and running. There are few other models that support just walking without any additional features.

When you exercise using a treadmill, you burn lots of calories. Treadmills also help to build good bone weight, maintaining healthy heart and blood vessels, and increases the energy levels etc. To derive more benefit with a less intense workout, the duration must be extended to compensate the intensity.

A treadmill has a soft running platform that provides a comfortable environment to do exercise without burdening the knees, ankles, skin, back and joints. The impact of injury when compared to a person who runs on a rough path is less. The treadmill belt also feels easier to run on and provides a controlled environment.

While running on a treadmill, there are none of the distractions of the road, or chances of random injury associated with obstacles. Just keep on running with the pace of the moving belt.

Elliptical Trainers – an enticement to fitness freaks

Want to burn calories as if you are jogging without hurting your joints, back, knees, hips and ankles? Since the elliptical trainer has pedals on which your feet rest while doing this exercise, this machine has a lesser impact compared to a treadmill, and your joints are at ease. Users experience the feeling of a floating walk, and a workout that's comfortable for the limbs.

Ellipticals are preferred for people recuperating from any illness, for geriatrics, for people suffering from pain or injury in their joints; they offer a complete workout of the lower portions of the body from the hip to the foot, imitating the normal body motions of common activities.

A prominent feature with ellipticals is that they also help in upper body workouts in contrast to treadmills.

A crisp, short workout of just 20 to 30 minutes can get your body to burn more calories with an elliptical, because all of the parts of the body are put to work from shoulder to toe: ellipticals work the triceps, biceps, chest, shoulders, back and legs. It takes less time in an elliptical to achieve optimal heart rates and calorie burns.

Ellipticals are the future instruments for helping maintain fitness without having much of discomfort that is present with treadmills. With these features and benefits, the demand of ellipticals is bound to go high.
