Man has been in the pursuit of harnessing power for all of recorded history. Whether it was wind power, water power or air power, humans knew that without power, nothing could be accomplished. The pursuit of power also included tapping the tremendous potential of the human mind. Great leaps have been made in harnessing the power of the human mind, and today many of the principles are common knowledge. Many people have achieved success in various areas, including fitness, due to an understanding of how the human mind operates.
· The Power of Thoughts · The Power of Emotions · The Power of Intentions
The Power of Thoughts The associated power of thoughts has a profound impact on the mental energy available to the individual. Negative thoughts and positive thoughts both have a tremendous amount of power to contribute toward action. To help simplify the process of how these thoughts contribute power, two categories can be established; outcomes to be embraced and outcomes to be avoided. Outcomes to be embraced can be labeled positive and outcomes to be avoided are labeled negative. Thoughts have the ability to move us away from events not desired [negative] with a tremendous amount of power and as well to move us toward outcomes that are desired [positive]. Our thoughts determine which is desired and which is not.
The Power of Emotions Once thoughts are crystallized in the mind, the amount of determination to avoid or embrace invokes an emotional response. The emotional response is a multiplying factor and exponentially increases the power of our thoughts. For example; if you really love the new gym you just joined, you will be hyped up to go and work out there. The emotional response supercharges your thought and channels the energy into action. Or if you dread cardio training with a certain instructor and you find out they will be leading the class today, negative energy will strip you of any motivation to participate. Whether our thoughts are positive or negative, the emotions will empower those thoughts without question.
The Power of Intentions Here is where the power of whole system is established; intentions. Remember; attention follows intention. If intentions are positive and embracing, then emotions will support them, and power will be made available to seek and enjoy. If intentions are negative [avoiding], then emotional power will seek to destroy. Of course the thoughts associated with each event play a pivotal role in the specific category into which intentions will fall. Associating positive [embracing] thoughts with the accomplishment of your fitness goals and negative [avoiding] thoughts with failure to meet those goals will unleash a double dose of power to energize each workout.
