Take charge of your body—with your mind

It’s not the mind over the body concept that is so significant by itself-- what’s important is for you to know which one is in charge.

One of the Ten Commandments in the business world is: “Under every possible circumstance, always go to the top, the one in charge, the one who calls the shots.” Why talk to the stock clerk when the president is within reach.

This similar principle applies to food and eating as well. Why be so concerned on “what” to eat as opposed to “why” to eat? People eat for different reasons. Some eat to live, and others live to eat. You’ve heard that before, right? Well, that’s only part of it. Many more of these reasons “why” are covered in M-Power, but the one that stands out the most are—emotion!

That is correct. You read that right. The main reason behind why people eat is emotion!
People use the food they eat as a drug. Biochemically speaking, when food is taken into the body, it has effects so quick and powerful it makes pharmaceutical drugs seem like child’s play. The right food can bring on the right mood, high or low, elation or depression—almost instantly. Foods are so powerful, that even food odors can set off hormonal reactions. With the exception of some inhalants, like chloroform for instance, no other drug we know of can make this claim.

So, in one manner of looking at this, we’re all drug addicts! It’s just a matter of which of these food drugs we’re addicted to. There are good food drugs, and there are bad food drugs. The good drugs can create energy, quietness, satisfaction, contentment and serenity. The not-so-good drugs are responsible for sadness, fear, lethargy and lack of self-worth. And as luck would have it, these are the most addictive drugs and the most difficult to overcome.

But, before you head to your refrigerator for a fix, there’s good news. You can kick the bad food drug habit. You can stop using food as a stimulant and start using it as a fuel—the way it was intended. And here’s where the mind comes in. You can just change the way your mind craved food in the past. Now, it can still crave foods, but only those that produce energy and power!

So, now you see the advantage of the mind over body. But don’t expect to see these mind-body principles in any of today’s diet programs. Like much of medicine today, the symptoms are addressed, not the causes. The modus operandi of today seems to be “put a person on a diet for awhile, that will do the trick.” Trick is right. And it’s you who are being tricked. But, the truth is out there. Face up to it, take responsibility for it, and you’ll never have a need to diet again.
