a business man runningAs someone in charge of an office or department, you may know that a corporate fitness program is a good deal for your bottom line. Statistics on how employee fitness positively affects group insurance and productivity may have won you over. But getting actual programs implemented in your business may be easier said than done. When it comes to successfully promoting fitness to employees, some very critical differences in approach will create radically different results. Fitness, as a very personal condition, must always be voluntary, and subject to the choices and preferences of those individuals who are involved. That's why promoting fitness in the workplace can be tricky. Here are some ways to successfully integrate fitness into a corporate environment.

Start with public presentations

Informational presentations are a great way to start out. Invite all of an office’s workers to informal presentations that will start building awareness without pressuring anyone into a program or initiative. As the awareness builds, individuals will be thinking more about what they could do personally to optimize their health.

Circulate surveys

As these public presentations “ramp up”, planners can begin to circulate theoretical surveys asking employees what they would like to be included in a corporate fitness set up. The results of these surveys are pure gold from a research perspective, and can be used to set up fitness installations or activities that will be desired, rather than just making guesses about what employees would want.

Offer group activities

When planners know what a number of people would prefer, they can start to offer minimal classes or activity sessions accordingly. Make a public offer and see who signs up, using this gradual approach to build greater holistic corporate fitness programs.

Offer fitness tools

Another good way to promote fitness through entirely voluntary participation is to offer some basic and affordable fitness tools. These can be as simple as jump ropes, small free weights, running gear, small pedometers, or, for big spenders, high tech gear like heart rate monitors. Offering these is a natural way to get individual employees thinking about fitness, and giving them away in a raffle style or lottery activity can be a winner for entertaining the workforce at special events.

Delegate group activities and planning

As the corporate fitness program grows, those in charge to delegate down to increase participation and enthusiasm among the “rank and file”. Getting a diverse set of people involved in planning will galvanize a program and give it a better chance at longevity within the business.

With these basic tips, a business can maximize its chances of adding what has become a very popular 21st-century tool to its workspace and daily operations. More and more managers are realizing that when it comes to offering fitness options at work, sooner is better than later, and ignoring the balance of physical and mental energy can cost a company a lot in the long run.
