The Freestyler Paddles have a unique design that got them the patent they currently hold in the United States which is made to help with better distance per stroke in the freestyle swim stroke. This paddles is not meant to help you with strength or resistance training but rather to decrease the water displacement when you swim for better swim efficiency. This swim paddle has skegs along the bottom which help to lengthen each swim stroke. The Freestyler's unique shape and 'skeg' design forces streamlined hand entry which lengthens each arm stroke.

According to the USMS, the US Masters Swimming Organization, if you are going to start a program of swimming, you need to work on your pull ability. Hand paddles are a great resource to help with that. Hand paddles are typically plastic, like the Freestyle Paddles are and are held in place by the hands.
